I'm using 2560x1440 Dell Monitors. tried everything under the sun with the font smoothing, screen calibration etc etc , bar the (most likely) obvious solution of setting the monitor to optimise for the Macbook Pro rather than the display i am using. Depends on if the display output is provided as graphics, where the text is considered part of the the image - or the text is font-driven.
